So, we´ve arrived - the build up is finally over and now we´re here in Germany. The flight from Dublin to Frankfurt Hahn was over before we noticed it had begun! However, one should have guessed that all would not be so smooth. Our low cost airline Ryanair, as usual, has this tendency to fly to remote, small airports far removed from central points in large cities. So, when we arrived in Frankfurt Hahn Airport we had to take the "shuttle bus" to Frankfurt. The phrase "shuttle" should be used loosely though considering this "shuttle" service took longer than the international fight from Ireland to Germany and included a bus rest break in the real Frakfurt airport...!!!
Nonetheless, we arrived in one piece, tired but enthusiastic. Dumped in the middle of a large city by a bus driver with seemingly very little knowledge of his home city and with hardly a word of German between us. Our first task was to find the hostel pre-booked by Rob. Luckily the lady in the Tourist Office was able to point out (in a patronising manner!) that our accommodation was right in front of us - literally across the road.
I guess that takes us to the accommodation well it´s no hotel but then again its not meant to be. It´s basic but adequate - we´ve seen a lot worse. We´re staying in a private room with an ensuite so that´s hostelling luxury style it seems. The atmosphere and craic is great - a wide mix of nationalities sitting around playing cards, drinking, talking - it´s good fun albeit completely random.
Random actully seems like a good word to some up the time so far.
- Talking to complete strangers as though we´ve known them for years.
- Trips and more trips to art galleries (It gets to a stage where you see one painting of christ, you´ve seen them all!!).
- Walking out of the hostel to find an Irish bar only a one minute walk away.
- Sharing a street with a string of sex shops and erotic dancing clubs and walking in by mistake...!!!(Thought it was a bank said someone!).
- Out of all the retaurants to choose from we ate in a Chinese restaurant which seemed similar to the Royal Park in Greystones.
All random but fun - which may well be the theme for this holiday. No doubt, tomorrow holds a lot more....

Germania: 30th August - 10th September 2006
Well it doesn´t seem like a year since the three Co. Wicklow lads; Rob, Michael and Simon, embraced Egypt with their Irish charm and wit! However, twelve months have passed and the lads have now turned their attention to Europe´s largest country - Germany. From Wednesday, 30th August until Sunday. 10th September they will be touring Germany whilst remembering important culture and historical issues such as not mentionning the war!! First stop Frankfurt!!
